Ham, Apple, Cinnamon, All In A Waffle!! While Still Waiting For The Perfect Shape!!
To those of you who are die hard waffle makers this might not be news to you. I, however, was never really a waffle fan, French toast was the way I always went, a far second was pancakes and even further away was waffles. Therefore, I never desired a waffle iron. However, for Xmas this year we all got a waffle maker from Santa. hmmmm. Of course me being me, a plain waffle just didn't sound that interesting, so right off decided to make them with different tweaks and or add ins as I like to say. I did, however, start off with a basic recipe, as I like to say that I start off exactly as the recipe is, and go from there. Here are some of my different ways I went with: First came the plain, then the buttermilk, then tried with applesauce in place of the oil/butter, then from that tried with diced apple pieces with cinnamon, and today moved on up to diced apple, and cinnamon with thin diced ham. You guessed it, I have a lot of ham to work with in the next couple weeks!! Now we're talking, we are getting interesting!
I admit my waffles still are not perfect shaped, and I have tried. Am guessing there is a knack to it and practice makes perfect. Truth be told, I only have the one in my photo anywhere near perfect, the rest not so much. I still am not sure how crazy I am about them, the jury is still out on that, but do intend to keep trying new combinations, and just maybe one will make me as happy as Santa is with any and all of my trials and errors...….
If you have an interesting recipe you and your family just love feel free to pass it on! I am more of a fan of tried and true recipes given to me then hit or miss recipes from cookbooks or google! But that's just me!
This is the recipe I used today:
Dry mix:
2 cups flour of choice, I use half white and half white whole wheat
2 TBSP of sugar, of choice I use white and or granulated brown
4 tsps. of baking powder, check date to be sure still good
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
Wet mix:
2 beaten eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
6 TBSP canola oil (or oil of choice or melted butter)
1 diced peeled mackintosh apple
Diced ham in amount of choice
Mix together, used about 2/3 cup of mix for each waffle, give or take, will depend on size of your maker
NOTE: I made 3 waffles with just the diced apple, no ham, then 2 with ham added in about 1/3 heaping cup
The recipe makes 5 good size waffles, so decided to go that way, of course any and all ways work, 2 with just apple and 3 with the ham, you get the idea, of course it is like I always say, your kitchen, your choice!
Hope the Easter Bunny was good to you all, and please stay safe!!
